Wondered if anyone could clarify the below:
1. Is there only one reversing light on the Q4? The car is the "estate" version not the Sportback in case it matters.
2. Yellow emergency charger release cable - we've been told by Audi that this is "one shot" i.e. once its been pulled, it breaks something inside and needs to be replaced again. Smells like BS to me and the owners manual doesn't suggest that it's "one shot". The problem we have is that it's been pulled before we bought it (we flagged it at the time) and where the handle should fit flush with the cable tube, there is some cable showing and the release doesn't do anything. I would assume it would spring back once its released the charger. Our local dealership is saying that this is a chargeable repair so we are in talks with the supplying dealer to sort. Has anyone had to use the emergency charger release? If so, how is it supposed to work?
Audi have been bad with these emergency release mechanisms, the fuel filler flap solenoids jam and the emergency release jams with it so there is no way to open the flap apart from breaking it! It's not just one model affected either. This is why I checked it when we went to look at the car. I see the Q4 has the solenoid too but there is no emergency release that I could see for it (it's usually a red tab).
Couple of things
`This happened to us just this weekend. Flew back to Gatwick and duly headed back up the road to home. Stopped at service station and went to plug in but no luck opening the flap. Tried every trick mentioned on the interweb but no luck. Phoned Audi assistance who arrived in less than 10 minutes. Lots of looking on his computer and then coming to the conclusion that the only thing to do was to force open the flap and then get Audi to replace under warranty.
Solenoid had been working fine up to this point so sods law it was on journey home in the pouring rain when it decided to fail. Phoned Audi dealer when back home and they have booked me in for warranty replacement. To be perfectly honest it works better with the solenoid not working as I don't have to unlock car to plug in cable at home!
I didn't know about the release cable being one shot (AA pulled it but of course it makes no difference to the flap so useless really). I assume that if it has been broken then it will also be replaced under warranty as it was AA who pulled it. I will post result when I have been fixed (in around three weeks' time).

The solenoid failed on my S3 a couple of weeks ago but I've repaired it since. In hindsight, I shouldn't have bothered, its not difficult to break it and the tank is anti-syphon anyway. Makes even less sense on the Q4 as there is nothing to steal in there!
It will be interesting to hear about the yellow emergency release from your dealer. What is the current state of your yellow lever? Is there some of the metal cable exposed from the tube?

Yes, the cable became exposed as the yellow plastic cover pulled off but otherwise it didn't seem to move much.Q4-40 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 12, 2024 8:30 am The solenoid failed on my S3 a couple of weeks ago but I've repaired it since. The main issue is that, as I said to AA, the cable is for the emergency release of the charging cable from the socket, not the opening of the charging flap so for us, it didn't need pulling.
Could be tricky to argue that with Audi. It's stupid that they didn't put the red emergency release cable in for the solenoid - not that it would have worked if the solenoid was seized but could work in other scenarios.
Cost cutting everywhere, Audi isn't what it used to be.

To be perfectly honest if you need to break open the flap (the black actuator end that goes into the space on the back of the flap breaks off fairly easily) then it is not the end of the world. When ours was broken by Audi Assistance I actually found it better as the flap didn't lock so I could open the flap without having to unlock the car when charging. The flap stayed shut when driving along and to be perfectly honest, if the car hadn't been in warranty then I would not have bothered getting it fixed.
