Hi all.
Quick question regarding a new noise that my 40 etron seems to be making. When accelerating from a standstill I hear a distinct single thump coming from the rear of the car. I have checked all the cables and items that my be making it and have driven without any items in boot (underfloor included) and it still makes the noise.
Before I take it to the local dealer I thought I would ask to see if anyone else had experienced this.
It is a soft thump rather than a metallic noise and seems to me to be related to a the car taking up a transmission 'gap' if that makes sense. I.e, the car is at standstill, power applied and then there is the thump as it takes up the power and transfers it to the wheels. (Very technical language!)
The other option I wondered was whether it is related to the brakes being released ( I use autohold) but it would be strange that the sound has started if there is nothing inherently wrong.
Thump from rear when accelerating
I’ve had something similar happen with my e-tron, and it does sound like it could be related to the way the electric drivetrain engages when you go from a stop. I know it’s not always obvious, but sometimes the transition from power-off to power-on can cause a small thump, especially if the system’s adjusting. It’s also worth checking things like the suspension or rear axle, since even small wear there can make noises like that. I’d suggest getting it looked at if it keeps happening, just to make sure it’s nothing more serious.
Yes, that's what I think - the ID3 had the same issue that saw a technical bulletin issued for slack in the drive spline. I am booked into local dealer on 16th for them to check it out.Hosa wrote: ↑Sat Dec 07, 2024 10:48 pm I’ve had something similar happen with my e-tron, and it does sound like it could be related to the way the electric drivetrain engages when you go from a stop. Quick update - the car was in the dealer today who confirmed that they have to do a 'rear axle gearbox repair'. It will take a few days to do once they have the parts all ordered and delivered and I should hear within a few days when I have to bring the car in again.,
They said that this was a large job so thank goodness for the extended warranty!
